Panajachel is across the lake, and is personally my favorite town around there! It has lots of shopping and restaurants. If you like coffee, Crossroads Cafe is a must! If you want to visit another town on the lake, I'd recommend San Juan. There are lots of cooperatives there with painters, weavers, and other artisans. I haven't hiked any of the volcanoes, but I know the views are beautiful from up there. The ferry is relatively cheap; however, I can't remember exact prices. Hope this helps!
