In 2004, the first artist was commissioned to create a cover for London Underground’s pocket Tube map. Since then, 38 covers have been created by a variety of British and international artists. These free maps represent one of the largest public art commissions in the UK.

The escalator link between Bank and Monument Stations now has the title Footway Link and is shown as a Broken line. The front cover is plain white with the dark blue title and Underground roundel at the top.

On the front cover there is an advert for the Tube Centenary Exhibition at the London Transport Museum.

Henry Beck's map of the London Underground Railway is the most famous transport map in the world, and an icon of 20th-century London. Beck was an unemployed engineer when he first devised the map. His design was inspired by electrical circuit diagrams and uses only vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines.

On the front cover there is a red roundel with a dark blue 'Underground' bar. London’s diagrammatic Underground map can truly be described as a design classic. May 29, 2019 · Last week you might have noticed the pocket-sized tube maps handed out in tube stations changed — with a new cover design. Art on the Underground’s 30th tube map cover commission is by former Turner prize-winning French artist Laure Prouvost, who is also ahead of her major city-wide commission for Art on the Underground, from 20th June 2019.
