The Big Fish in Belfast is a unique ceramic sculpture made up of tiles which depict prints and drawings about the history of Belfast. Many of the images were sourced at The Ulster Museum and the drawings were done by schoolchildren from local schools.

Mar 11, 2021 · Located in Donegall Quay, the Big Fish also stands at a significant spot in the history of Belfast. It marks the place where the city’s hidden river, the Farset, joins the Lagan on its way to the Irish Sea.

Designed by local artist John Kindness and unveiled in 1999, the sculpture pays homage to Belfast’s rich maritime heritage and celebrates the city’s vibrant cultural identity.

John Kindness’ Big Fish dates from 1999, and is located not far from the city’s shipyards, near the Samson & Goliath Cranes and the Titanic Belfast Experience, a museum dedicated to the history of the world’s most famous ocean liner!

Jul 15, 2016 · The 'Big Fish' is a sculpture across the water from Belfast's Maritime Trail. It was listed as a point of interest in Belfast but from a distance I wasn't super-impressed. It wasn't until I got up close and realized that the mosaic tiles were full of details from old newspapers, paintings and documents containing the history of Belfast.
