The World Bowl trophy was a globe made of glass measuring 35.5 cm (14 inches) in diameter and weighing 18.6 kg (41 lbs). When the World League of American Football (WLAF) was founded in 1991, with teams in North America and Europe as well as expansion plans for Asia, the name World Bowl was appropriate.

The World Bowl trophy, awarded to the winners of the annual World Bowl game, was a 40-pound glass globe. [57] The winning team also received championship rings [ 58 ] Other awards included regular season most valuable player awards on offense and defense, a coach of the year award, and an award for the World Bowl MVP.

It took place on June 9, 1991 at London 's Wembley Stadium. The game featured a matchup between the Barcelona Dragons and the London Monarchs. The Monarchs won 21–0 in front of 61,108 fans. The teams finished the 1991 season with the two best records in the WLAF.
