The Encampment River is a 44.7-mile-long (71.9 km) [2] tributary of the North Platte River.The river's source is east of Buck Mountain in the Park Range of Jackson County, Colorado.The river flows north and passes to the east of the town of Encampment, Wyoming, then through the town of Riverside, Wyoming before its confluence with the North Platte.

Additional Information: Encampment River PAA is located approximately 2 miles south of the town of Encampment on Carbon County Road #353. The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) jointly manage the area.

The Encampment River is arguably the best dry fly fishing in the west. In its short season it boasts many excellent hatches; Sallmon flies, Golden stones, Yellow sallies, Caddis, Tricos and of course the famous Drakes green and grey!

The Encampment River is wonderfully teeming with stories rooted in the history of the Old West. Nestled in southern Wyoming, it spans a length of approximately 44.7 miles, offering captivating views and adventurous activities.

The trail, which traverses the WSA and enters Colorado to the south, follows the scenic Encampment River. Located two miles south of Encampment and easily accessible from BLM's Encampment River Campground, this 4,547-acre WSA contains grasslands, riparian areas and forested slopes.

Nov 23, 2010 · The Encampment River in the canyon section is wild and beautiful with some great pocket water as well as some more peaceful stretches; and although it contains a plentiful population of trout, it doesn’t see a great deal of pressure due to a lack of roadside access.

Beginning just East of the Continental Divide in northern Colorado, the Encampment River briefly wanders north into Wyoming where it will soon converge with the North Platte River. As you cross the Colorado-Wyoming border, the river snakes through a sensational, 18 mile long, wilderness protected canyon.

Encampment River Wilderness is a 10,124-acre property in the Medicine Bow Mountains of southern Wyoming. The wilderness primarily contains a 15-mile stretch of the upper Encampment River and the canyon that surrounds it.

The Encampment River Wilderness is within the Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming and is located on the Brush Creek/Hayden Ranger District in the Sierra Madre Range. Designated a Wilderness Area in 1984 with 10,124 acres, it is the smallest wilderness area in Wyoming.
