Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (/ ˈbaɪdən / (listen) BY-dən; born November 20, 1942) is an American politician who served as the 46th president of the United States from 2021 to 2025. Before becoming president, he was the 47th vice president under Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017. He was a senior U.S. senator from Delaware from 1973 to 2009.
