Yusof bin Ishak (/ ˈjʊsɒfbɪnˈɪshɑːk / YUUSS-off bin ISS-hahk; 12 August 1910 – 23 November 1970) was a Singaporean journalist and senior civil servant who served as the second Yang di-Pertuan Negara of Singapore from 1959 to 1965 and the first president of Singapore between 1965 and 1970, both roles serving as the head of state of Singapore.

Yusof Ishak was the founder of well-known Malay newspaper, Utusan Melayu, and former chairman of the Singapore Public Service Commission. He was sworn in as Singapore’s first president on 9 August 1965 during his second term as Yang di-Pertuan Negara. 15 Yusof was re-elected for a second four-year term on 4 December 1967. 16
